Fotona 4D™ is a unique, non-surgical series of laser treatments that treats both the outer surface of the face and the inside of the mouth. By contracting the collagen fibres, it offers a long-lasting, volumising and face-firming procedure with no downtime and no injectables, for visibly rejuvenated skin.
Fotona 4D™ uses two laser wavelengths (Er:YAG and Nd:YAG) and consists of four treatment modes. The treatments target age-related changes at four different levels:
deep down, as well as in the middle and superficial connective tissue of the skin.
The four “dimensions” of Fotona 4D refer to four different treatment modes: SmoothLiftin™, FRAC3®, PIANO® and SupErficial™. All four are used in aesthetic medicine to slow down and delay facial ageing.
What is SmoothLiftin™?
SmoothLiftin™ is an exceptionally gentle Er:YAG treatment performed inside the mouth that stimulates collagen fibres to contract through controlled, mild heating of the tissue. In addition to the immediate contraction of collagen fibres, it also triggers the production of new collagen, improving the elasticity and firmness of the treated tissue.
It involves 4 consecutive laser pulses at each point, reaching up to 4 times deeper into the skin than earlier laser procedures. The innovation is that this is done without pain, as the sensory nerves can recover between the 4 pulses, while the results are visibly better.
The SmoothLiftin mode also makes it possible to treat the area around the eyes, which was not possible with earlier laser devices.
What is FRAC3®?
FRAC3® is a three-dimensional treatment that targets very small areas, correcting age-related imperfections in the epidermis and connective tissue while leaving the surrounding healthy tissue untouched. This helps the treated areas heal faster and shortens recovery time compared with similar treatments.
It helps correct abnormal pigmentation, capillary damage and loosened collagen structure.
What is the PIANO® mode?
The PIANO® mode is a new Nd:YAG tissue-heating laser treatment based on super-long pulse durations (0.3–60 s). The long thermal relaxation time of the laser wave means it works in the deep layers, leaving the epidermis and blood vessels untouched. It acts directly on the collagen fibres, providing immediate firmness and stimulating collagen production.
What is SupErficial™?
SupErficial™ is a cold-light Er:YAG resurfacing treatment that gives the skin a pearl-like finish. It improves the appearance of the skin while also stimulating the connective tissue, contributing to the firming effect. Fotona VSP™ technology allows highly precise, controlled light resurfacing without heat effects or downtime.
The Fotona SP Dynamis combines the four exclusive treatment modes and the two laser wavelengths to achieve the desired results without surgery and without pain. The mutually reinforcing steps of Fotona 4D™ face lifting require no anaesthesia or sedation.
The laser beam induces a self-healing mechanism in the connective tissue, so continuous improvement and rejuvenation can be expected for up to 6 months. The results are long-lasting, and the face may look up to 5–8 years younger. We particularly recommend this treatment for skin prone to wrinkles around the mouth.
No prior preparation or anaesthesia is needed, and the treatment is virtually painless. Redness may appear for 1–3 days afterwards, which clears up without any downtime. The treatment is extremely precise.
